The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park is committed to protecting the privacy of visitors to the Park’s Web site and recipients of the Park’s e-mail newsletter. The following explains the Internet Privacy Policy of the Park as it relates to the Park’s information-gathering and dissemination practices.

The Park reserves the right to change its Internet Privacy Policy at any time without notice.

What is collected and how it is used

The Park’s Web site does not require that any personal information be supplied in order to download publicly available files or reports.

When you visit the Park’s Web site, the following non-personal information is collected automatically:

  • The numerical Internet protocol (IP) address of your desktop computer,
  • The date and time you access the site,
  • The type of browser software you use and your operating system, and
  • The Internet address of the Web site from which you linked to the Park’s site, if present.

None of this information is associated with you as an individual and is used strictly for statistical reporting and diagnostic purposes, including measuring the number of visitors to the overall site and different sections of the site, diagnosing and correcting system errors and improving the site. .

Some sections of the Web site require you to provide personal information in order to complete your registration for a Park event or to provide other services requested by you. If you choose to share personal information with the Park by sending the Park an e-mail message or by filling out an electronic form with personal information, the Park will use the information only for the purposes you have authorized or in support of Park-sponsored programs. Should you not desire to provide this personal information, the Park will be unable to provide you with specific services offered online.

Cookies

A “cookie” is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a World Wide Web server and stored on your desktop computer. The cookie is sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page. The primary purpose of cookies is to identify users in order to prepare customized Web pages for them.

The Park does not use “cookies” on its Web site.

Information disclosure

Any personal information you choose to supply will be maintained exclusively within the Park and will not be supplied to any other non-park entity, except as provided by law. Information you provide is used only to provide you requested services and for internal statistics.

Links to other Web sites

The Park’s site contains links to external (non-Park) Web sites. The Park is not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites.
