- Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc.
Health Diagnostic Laboratory, Inc. (HDL, Inc.) will be headquartered in Richmond, VA. HDL, Inc. plans to be a fully CAP/CLIA accredited clinical laboratory focused on disease management with supporting clinical laboratory testing for both adult and pediatric patient sectors in the areas of cardiovascular disease (CVD), heart failure, stroke, diabetes mellitus (DM), metabolic syndrome (MS), and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis or fatty liver disease (NASH). HDL, Inc. is founded on the idea that all people and their diseases are not created equally. In order to reverse the alarming increase in chronic diseases, it requires that we examine emerging biomarkers that are more indicative of the mechanics of affected systems. HDL, Inc. provides a unique array of tests that will go far beyond the typical laboratory tests that give physicians a clear understanding of the disease status for each patient so that they are able to make clear decisions of the treatment pathways for each patient. HDL, Inc. offers unique clinical laboratory test results, selected based on their ability to discern the information required to understand each patient's disease state, and will be expanded in response to physicians' requests for continued advanced testing as technology evolves. Our idea is that each treatment plan should be individualized to truly affect positive changes in chronic disease states. This business approach is quite unique in the world of laboratory testing. So much of clinical laboratory testing has become commoditized in the USA. Most laboratories focus on testing volumes and winning bids from private payer health insurance companies in order to continually increase the number of samples tested in their laboratories, especially the large nationals. This type of approach to lab testing is consistent with the managed care approach of the health insurance companies but does not impact on reducing incidence of disease or improving patient outcomes.

- VCU Massey Cancer Center Cellular Therapeutics Lab
Located in the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park, the $1.8 million, 5,000 square-foot expanded laboratory includes a large main clinical lab for actual stem cell processing and three smaller GMP laboratories behind a special air lock for advanced cell therapy preparation or therapeutic viral production. In addition, the expansion will provide conference space and office areas to allow researchers to collaborate and to develop clinical protocols.
The Cellular Therapeutics Lab is a physical reflection of the potential of the ongoing partnership of the university, the hospital, and the cancer center in working to solve the cancer problem. This state-of-the-art laboratory is a resource that many institutions and most transplant programs do not have, and will allow VCU, VCUHS, Massey Cancer Center and the Bone Marrow Transplantation Program to retain its place as an institution defining and developing cutting- edge clinical cancer care.
