Midwest Proteomics to Partner with the Remedy Group
For Immediate Release
July 29, 2009
Richmond, Virginia- Midwest Proteomics (MWP) has announced an innovative strategy to launch their Network Builder technology into the forefront of the bioinformatics community. MWP will embark on a commercialization partnership with leading specialty consulting firm, The Remedy Group.
By providing customized solutions to specialty markets, the partnership with The Remedy Group, a New Jersey-based consultancy, is a perfect fit for both entities.
Midwest Proteomics, a bioinformatics company based out of the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park, is focused on the advancement of life sciences research through the development of new tools and services for the specialty pharmaceutical industry. It will utilize The Remedy Group to infiltrate the specialty pharmaceutical market, taking their technologies to the forefront of the industry.
Sterling Thomas, CEO of MWP has been working in the bioinformatics field since 1999. “Midwest Proteomics Network Builder® Technology is used to identify networks of genes specific to a disease, biological function, or even a specific person. Through the innovative use of data-mining and simulation, the dynamics of functional pathways can be uncovered. This allows our clients to discover therapeutic targets, diagnostic markers, surrogate markets for phase 1 through phase 4 clinical trials, functional state and plant breeding.”
The partnership with Remedy Group will not only give MWP’s products greater penetration in a highly competitive market, but will, in turn, afford MWP the ability to focus on advanced research in new genetic areas such as autism, T2DM, and cancer research aimed to improve quality of life.
”DNA holds the keys to how plants, animals and our bodies operate.” said Thomas. “Cells build small machines from our genetic blueprints. Gene expression describes the number and states of these genetic machines. We utilize computational modeling, bioinformatics and proprietary algorithms which represent the cutting edge of computational biology.”
The Remedy Group combines sales, marketing, training and technology into one comprehensive solution allowing their clients to capitalize on market opportunities.
Dennis McLoughlin, President of The Remedy Group, described this type of collaboration as “a new business model for the bioinformatics world, merging science and business to commercialize novel research and technology platforms for the betterment of mankind.”
Tom McKnelly, Senior Director of The Remedy Group, is heading up this collaboration. “In an increasingly challenging business environment, hands-on initiatives are needed to ensure your company vision becomes a reality,” he said. “We are committed to the commercialization of new technologies and products. By creating customized solutions, we can help MWP achieve their goals.”
According to Thomas, the overall goal of this collaborative effort is to improve global healthcare. “Partnering with The Remedy Group will allow us to do what we do best; Advance life sciences research worldwide by introducing computational bioinformatics tools, services and new drug discoveries.”
About Midwest Proteomics: Midwest Proteomics is a bioinformatics-based company using proprietary data with molecular biology lab capabilities to develop new computer-based analytical software. For example, Network Builder® is designed to discover or predict unique cellular protein networks and connections that are important in disease processes that represent potential drug targets or are involved in drug induced side effects. MWP has a team of scientists with bioinformatics, genetics, pharmacology and signal transduction backgrounds who interpret the data and determine their functional significance.
About The Remedy Group: The Remedy Group is a specialty sales, marketing and consulting company that focuses on the commercialization of products within the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Sales, marketing, training and technology are just a few of the business development areas that the industry experts of the Remedy Group focus on to ensure corporate partners meet their goals in a challenging business environment.
About the VBDC: The Virginia Biosciences Development Center is the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park’s biosciences business incubation program located in its 27,000 square-foot incubator facility. Since opening in 1995, 68 companies have started in the Park’s incubator facility; 40 of which have graduated into larger spaces in the Park or greater Richmond community. Companies like Insmed Pharmaceuticals, Allos Therapeutics, Commonwealth Biotechnologies and Intelliject are graduates of the Park’s business incubation program.
About the Park: The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park is currently home to a unique mix of more than 55 public and private bioscience companies, research institutes affiliated with the VCU Medical Center, and major state and national medical laboratories. These companies are housed in nine buildings totaling more than 1.1 million square feet of space, representing an employee base that exceeds 2,000. The Park’s Biosciences Commercialization Center has been created to take incubator graduates through commercialization to M&A or IPO, giving the Park’s tenants full-scale business assistance. The Commercialization Center is now the home of eight companies from the Israeli life science community and continues to expand its resource base. It has created alliances with leading incubators in Israel. To date, the Park’s incubator and commercialization center has graduated three companies that are now publicly traded.
